The Community Read is a shared intellectual community-building program. Over the summer months, all students, faculty, and staff read a common book that will be incorporated into the curriculum across all departments throughout the school year. In addition to allowing us to come together face-to-face for interdisciplinary discussions, presentations, workshops, and other related activities, the Community Read emphasizes the value and importance of the experience of reading a book.
The Community Read is intended to be:
- a means of interdisciplinary intersection and collaboration
- a starting point for, and often an extension of, curricular-related themes
- a way to build empathy and consider a topic from a new perspective
